Following backlash, the Trump Administration is reconsidering its plans to cut funding in unemployment benefits for elderly veterans. The proposed budget would have drastically changed the eligibility rules for the VA’s Individual Unemployability program. As of now, the IU programs awards assistance at the 100-percent disability rate to veterans who are unable to work due to service-related injuries, regardless of their actual rating decisions. The administration, however, seeks to end these payments once a veteran is eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. Read more.
