Over Half of Service Members Separated for Misconduct Suffer from Mental Health Issues

Last month, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report finding that about 62 percent of service members separated for misconduct from fiscal year 2011 through fiscal year 2015 suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), or another mental health condition. Nearly 25 percent were given other-than-honorable discharges, thus making them ineligible for certain veterans benefits. Read the report.
