Unanimous Court Rules for Veteran in Family Law Case – SCOTUS Blog

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor a veteran in Howell v. Howell. The Court held that if a divorced veteran waives part of his or her retirement pay to receive disability benefits instead, a state court cannot order the veteran to make up the difference for lost payments that his or her spouse would have received if the veterans had continued receiving retirement pay.
