VA Secretary Backs Off Plan to Cut Elderly Vets’ Benefits – The Military Times
Following backlash, the Trump Administration is reconsidering its plans to cut funding in unemployment benefits for elderly veterans. The proposed budget would have drastically changed the eligibility rules for the VA’s Individual Unemployability program. As of now, the IU programs awards assistance at the 100-percent disability rate to veterans who are unable to work due to service-related injuries, regardless of their actual rating decisions.
