During a VA advisory committee meeting in March, Jim Sampsel, lead analyst within the Department of Veterans Affairs’ compensation service, downplayed the risks of Agent Orange. ProPublica released a transcript of the meeting, in which Sampsel referred to media reporting on Agent Orange as “hype” and “hysteria.” Sampsel’s role in the VA includes determining whether a veteran or group of veterans was exposed to Agent Orange outside of Vietnam.
